Ope—looks like you’ve scrolled onto our soapbox about spay/neuter. Let’s talk accidental litters.

The past week, we have been asked about five accidental litters—three from owned pets. The hardest part? We couldn’t help all of them.

Why?
1️⃣ People thinking they were going to be “put in cages and sent to Idaho”
2️⃣ Misconceptions about spay/neuter
3️⃣ Not wanting the mom to leave, so no one got help

Every unplanned litter rehomed without spay/neuter undoes progress. Today, we got a call: a four-year-old intact dog had an accidental litter. Now, five more puppies need homes—continuing the cycle.

There’s no room for unplanned litters. Every puppy given away unaltered fuels overpopulation. Shelters and rescues work tirelessly, but how do we reach the ones like these? This week we’ve been reminded the puppies that end up in the shelters are just the tip of the iceberg.

Puppy Palaces are full. More litters are out there, making things worse.

Spay. Neuter. Prevent. It’s the only way forward. ❤️

Yesterday, we hosted our first (and hopefully not last) wedding here on the farm for one of the @askasanimals family members, @lbhartley. The day was complete with guests feeding the pigs down the aisle, rescue puppies being released post-ceremony, and SO. MUCH. LOVE.

It was a full team effort—animals included—to make this day so magical and unforgettable, and we could not be more honored to have been a part of it.

Everyone, give Weasley (formerly Ajax) a big congratulations on his adoption! He’s found the most amazing, Aussie-loving family he could have ever hoped for—a near twin brother to wrestle with all day and an older sister to look up to. Plus, he’s just down the street from the farm, so we can visit him anytime! Our hearts and cups are full for Weasley and his fam. 🐶🐶🐶

Have you ever heard someone say, “Don’t worry, dogs love me!” while insisting on petting a dog that’s clearly uncomfortable? Dogs are constantly communicating with us, but their early signals are often ignored, leading to unnecessary stress or even escalation. We’re here to remind you that prevention is key—understanding your dog’s body language can help you avoid many stressful situations.

The majority of the dogs we work with aren’t truly “aggressive”—they’ve simply been placed in situations that set them up to fail, leaving them no choice but to rely on their last line of defense. By learning the early signs of stress, most of these incidents are avoidable! Let’s learn to read and listen to what our dogs are telling us! 🤓 🐶

Congrats to Agni (now Rusty) on his adoption and new family with two human brothers to keep him busy!

Although adoptions are rare for us, each one is a special and momentous occasion for our team. In the overwhelming world of animal rescue, focusing on the difference we make for just one animal is a refreshing reminder of why we do this work. Moments like these keep us going. Meet the new kids on the block! If you’re keeping track, yes we have four litters of puppies and only three palaces because that is where we are at in animal welfare currently. 🫠

It is imperative that we actively prevent more unwanted puppies, make sure we raise the ones already in this world correctly so they don’t end up behaviorally challenged, support the animals already in the system AND spay/neuter every animal (because no one “just needs one litter”). We currently have 27 dogs on the farm that will be adoptable soon.

The Wild Robot litter, pictured here, are from new partners, @mountainhumane! They reached out because the mom, Roz, was stressed in the shelter environment and was not doing well with her puppies. They were patient while we got creative to make room for them and thanks to our volunteer transporter, Katie, they arrived with us yesterday. We’ll have them for the next 4 weeks before they head back to Hailey, ID to find their homes.

We are already head over heels in love with all nine of them & mom! 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
