Canine Behavior Support Programs

Because of generous funding from donors, we’re now able to provide free or subsidized training services for dog owners in need of training for their dog(s).

One of our core values is to provide compassionate support for animals and pet owners so that animals are cared for, and pet owners are happy with the animals in their homes. Let’s face it, all dogs and humans need training, so we’ve started to provide free Dog Behavior Workshops for our community once a month. In these workshops, we cover basic dog behavior communication, the difference between management and training, and we answer specific questions from the community members in attendance. This is a judgment-free, supportive environment for dog owners to learn how to become better pet parents.

Support Services

We also provide free or subsidized one-on-one training with Krissi of JH Positive Training. Aska’s Animals aims to keep pets in their homes and out of the shelter system through a variety of methods. Behavioral issues are a common reason animals are surrendered to shelters. We work to address this issue while the dog is still in their familiar home environment with their family to create a more harmonious existence in the existing home. Aska’s Animals only uses positive reinforcement methods and enlists the help of trainers who use behavioral science to guide their reward-based training methods. If you need one-on-one or long-term support, please fill out this form and our resident dog trainer Krissi from JH Positive Training will be in touch with you shortly.

In alignment with our mission, priority for scheduling free or subsidized training with JH Positive Training is given to dogs at risk of being surrendered to a local animal shelter or having behavior issues that are related to the health and safety of the animal and the people in the household.

If you’re able to afford dog training services, please be in direct contact with the talented dog trainers at JH Positive Training.

Shelter Support Dog Behavior Retreat

In July of 2022, we added the ‘Shelter Support Dog Behavior Retreat’ program. Thanks to generous donations from our community, Aska’s Animals is now able to provide dogs in regional shelters a behavioral ‘retreat’ to teach new skills and make the dog more adoptable.

Zeus was the first participant in our new ‘Shelter Support Dog Behavior Retreat!’ Aska’s Animals mission is to fill the critical gap between shelter and permanent rescue and Zeus is the perfect example of the kind of dog that needs a little extra help. Zeus was surrendered to the PAWS of Teton Valley Shelter this spring for a combination of medical and behavioral reasons. He needs eye medication, and he didn’t enjoy receiving his eye drops daily. Zeus was at Aska’s Animals for a few weeks. The retreat started with Zeus de-stressing in quiet accommodations. Once he and Aska established a trusting relationship, she trained him to receive his eye drops with ease. Now he has mastered receiving his medication, he has returned to PAWS of Teton Valley and is available for adoption!
