Lucky and her St. Patrick’s Day litter are officially off to find their forever homes with our friends at @animaladoptioncenterjhwy! Anyone lucky enough to adopt momma or one of her pups will be striking gold.

But Lucky’s story is also a powerful example of the systemic issues we continue to see in animal rescue. From what we were told, she was originally a puppy given away in a parking lot. She was never spayed, didn’t receive vaccines, and four years later — still intact — became pregnant by a family member’s unneutered male dog. She gave birth to 12 puppies, lost 7, and was turned away from a shelter due to an active parvo outbreak. That’s when she came to us.

This is a cycle we’re working hard to break. We neutered the male dog, and Lucky and her surviving pups are now safe, healthy, and on the path to adoption. But this litter is a sobering reminder of how preventable this all could’ve been. Here are just a few takeaways from their story:

🐶 Giving away unaltered puppies may seem harmless, but it can have a ripple effect — for Lucky, it led to more unplanned litters years later.
🐶 If unspayed females and unneutered males live together, puppies shouldn’t come as a surprise.
🐶 Our hearts hurt for the 7 puppies that didn’t survive — they should never have had to go through this.
🐶 Spay/neuter resources are available — and preventing a litter is far more affordable and humane than raising one.

In just 43 days, this litter received 28 vaccines, 6 microchips, and 6 spay/neuter surgeries. Today, we send them off with love and hope as they begin their next chapter.

Let’s keep working toward a world where every dog has a safe, wanted, and in a loving home before welcoming more homeless puppies into the system. ❤️

More on the newest Puppy Palace residents soon, but we couldn’t wait to share today’s rescue mission with our new friends @hitlivingfoundation. These photos from @fosterandphoto give a small glimpse into why they needed urgent help.

Also a shoutout to the legendary @hopereiners who drove 18 dogs from California to Idaho—19 hours straight, solo 🤯. One explosive diarrhea incident in the car, a daring pup scaling the dashboard, and countless squeals later, we’re thrilled to report that Dory, Silver, and all their puppies have arrived safely and are settling into the Puppy Palace life.

This journey took an incredible amount of teamwork, logistical hurdles, and sheer determination to make happen. But when we come together, the impossible becomes reality. The way forward is always together. ❤️‍🔥

It’s that time of year again—the snow is melting, canine hikes are right around the corner, and social events where you can bring your pup are on the horizon. That means it’s the perfect time to revisit your leash skills!

We want to encourage respectful dog ownership. Remember, other owners may have their dogs on a leash for a variety of reasons, such as training, stress management, reactivity to dogs or people, illness, or simply because they’re caring for a friend’s dog and don’t want to risk losing them. The reasons why your dog should be leash trained and why others use it as a tool are endless.

We know off-leash dogs are common in our area, but a little extra practice with leash manners can benefit everyone! 🤓 🐶

We can dream right?! In the meantime, we’ll be working towards reducing the pet overpopulation problem with your help. ❤️

Our palaces have been at full capacity for 90% of the year so far. Here’s a recap of our current population:

🐾 The Little Rascals ⚾️ litter was an accidental litter and surrendered to us. We just sponsored the momma dogs spay to ensure this won’t happen again. These Husky/Lab/etc. mixes will be adoptable through @stafford_animal_shelter early April.
🐾 The Pepper 🌶️ litter joined us today from @ifanimalshelter. These four, eight week old Chihuahua mixes will be adoptable through @stafford_animal_shelter in early April!
🐾 The St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ litter (& momma Lucky) was from an accidental litter. We just sponsored the neuter of the dad dog so this doesn’t happen again. They’ll be adoptable through the @animaladoptioncenterjhwy early April.

Drum roll please… Welcome to the farm family, Billie! 🐰

We’ve officially expanded our species! Last week, a bunny in need of a home was brought to our attention. As the story goes, he was once a beloved pet but was later left behind. He had been roaming downtown Victor for quite some time, and while residents enjoyed seeing him out and about, it was time for him to find a safe and permanent sanctuary.

Billie is now settling into his new home and will soon be fully integrated with the rest of the sanctuary animals. Everyone give him a warm welcome, we love him so much already! 🐰❤️🏡
