We are just here to say we feel so grateful to do this work. And how lucky are we to spend our days with these faces to give them the best chance at a brighter future than they were likely destined for?!?!

Here is some real talk.

Animals are not robots and what works for one individual doesnt work for the next. It is why we very intentionaly never use the phrase "forever home" when talking about placements. Humans are dynamic, animals are dynamic and while we believe we should all make every effort to provide a safe stable home for an animal, it also has to work for everyone in the environment.

What might seem like an idyllic life here for some isn't actually the best fit for everyone. We have dogs, pigs, cats, chickens, horses and humans all co-habitating. Last week we made some difficult but ultimately correct choice for two residents and we are so grateful to our partners who made it possible.

Milosh the pig came to us this spring as an intact, under socialized pig with self esteem issues stemming from living alone foe so many years. We tried to make it work for him here but it wasn't working. Not for him, not for us and not for the other resident pigs. We reached out to our friends at @bestfriendsanimalsociety and specifically their magical pig caregiver @lookwhosoinking to see if we could do a pig trade. We could take some well socialized pigs to integrate into our herd and perhaps they could take Milosh and give him the more structured life he needs. Well, she said yes and added bonus, Maisy and Milli are Doogies sisters (we adopted Doogie from BFAS in 2013). Milosh is happy and Maisy, Milli and Papa are settling in well and they are happy to have more space and grass! to roam on.

Waffles came here about a month ago with three premature puppies. Ink, the lone survivor is doing well but Waffles was struggling in this environment. She loves people but the barnyard scene would make her go bananas so her outside time was limited and walks were stressful for caregivers. Waffles came from Idaho Falls Animal Shelter and they graciously accepted her back and she is still waiting for her family. If you're interested in her, please go meet her. She is a doll! In exchange we took 3 semi-feral kittens

It was a week of highs and lows and it isn't perfect always and we are here to say that's ok. Everyone will be loved and happy in the end. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hi, Hello, it's me Waffles! 🧇🧇🧇

I LOVE humans. Like so much. If I could crawl into your lap and into your jacket I would LOVE that. Some people might think this means I have boundary issues but my therapist says it's fine. I just want to be SO close to you, and love you, and kiss you, and wiggle on you and I definitely want to lick the inside of your mouth.

I like other dogs but sometimes some dogs think I'm a bit "much." What can I say, I'm just really exuberant about life. Seems like that's a them problem and not a me problem.

My humans here are so nice to me but they have said I'm not allowed to live with cats because apparently it's not acceptable for me to eat peoples cats. Again, seems like a them problem... 😉

I am about 2 or 3, I had puppies but I had zero interest in raising those kids. I mean, did you know, I was expected to LICK their butts and eat their poop?! No, thanks. I let the humans do all the work because why not? I'm spayed now so thankfully I never have to do that whole thing again.

I have some manners. I'm not just a total hippo in a glassware shop. I know how to sit and shake hands and I'm working on my leash walking skills Mostly, I want to hold the leash and play tug which apparently is a little annoying to my humans but I think it's fun.

If you think you can give me a loving home, reach out to my human managers. They arrange my schedule for me because I'm busy catching grasshoppers. Also, please share my story becuase I'm cute and I deserve a home. Also, I won't eat your couch and I won't poop in your house. That's gross and I'm not gross.

Week 3.

If you've been following Sage's story you will see that she has put on weight, her hair is growing in and she is looking brighter and healthier every week.

As you scroll her photos they go back in time: 1 week ago, 2 weeks ago and her intake day.

She and her puppies will be available for adoption in a few weeks through @animaladoptioncenterjhwy once everyone is healthy, spayed and neutered and old enough for homes.
