In honor of Mental Health Awareness month, @askasanimals is teaming up with @thementalhealthcoalition and @studiocoretetonvalley to combine the joy of puppies, movement, and community!

Onwards and upwards… literally! 🐶 ✈️

We ❤️ having friend organizations with a plane and who are always willing to lend us a hand. The Star Wars litter started at @landerpetconnection, had a two week layover @askasanimals, and is now on their way to find their homes through @idahohumanesociety thanks to @dogismycopilotinc!

We also ❤️ being a part of so many animal welfare organizations chipping in and working together so these puppies get to where they need to go! Till the Spire, Star Wars litter! 🌌🔫👑👊

Happy Mother’s Day!

Here at AAF we have a DEEP appreciation for moms of all kinds. We are constantly reminded how strong, powerful, selfless, adaptable, and caring they are. We see litters with moms, moms that have adopted those that are not their own, moms that have lost their babies, puppies & kittens that have lost their moms, humans that have stepped in to be a neonatal’s mom, and then list goes on.

No matter what kind of mom you are, we see you and love you! We hope your cup is filled today with whatever you need. 💗

Puppyhood is full of excitement and challenges, and managing puppy mouthiness is definitely one of them. It’s important to start teaching appropriate behavior early on to prevent it from becoming a bigger issue as they grow.

Consistent training and redirection can help them learn what is acceptable to chew on and what isn’t. Stay diligent and always be prepared with your management toolbox! 🤓🐶

Thank you to everyone who made our Community Clean Up Day a huge success yesterday. A big shoutout to the 20 volunteers who sacrificed their sunny afternoon to be elbow deep in pig poop, hay, and dirt before we enter third winter! Many hands make light(er) work and we couldn’t do it without you!

NO VACANCY! (Well unless someone needed help then maybe we could get creative 😂)

We are so excited to share that all the Palaces are up, running and FULL for the first time since December 2023. At times we felt completely overwhelmed, questioning if we could get here again but leaned on our community for support and here we are! The farm feels complete having all three at full capacity.

Puppy Palace 1️⃣ was filled yesterday with the Snow White litter: a Chihuahua mix mom and her seven, one week old babies from @ifanimalshelter. The mom will return to her owner after getting spayed and the puppies will be available for adoption through the @animaladoptioncenterjhwy in 7-8 weeks. Get your apps in now, they will go QUICK!

Puppy Palace 2️⃣ has the Star Wars litter (May the 4th be with you): five, six week old Reservation Mutt puppies that arrived from @landerpetconnection. TBD on where they will be adoptable!

Puppy Palace 3️⃣ has the Met Gala litter: a Mixed Breed momma and her six, three week old puppies from the Wind River Reservation. These guys will be available for adoption through the @animaladoptioncenterjhwy at the end of May!

Parvo (or the P-word) is like nails on a chalkboard for those in animal rescue. Canine parvovirus (CPV or parvo) is a highly contagious viral disease of dogs that commonly causes acute gastrointestinal illness in puppies. The disease most often strikes in pups between six and 20 weeks old (hint: the population we serve). CPV is relentless, stubborn, mysterious, deadly, and a pain in everyone’s a$$. Speaking of money, it’s not cheap to handle either. 😂

This past December, we experienced our first CPV litter. Patient zero was impossible to track down, and having parvo in the dead of winter with the setup of Puppy Palaces was not ideal. Thanks to Victor Vet and their guidance, almost the entire litter pulled through and found happy homes through @idahohumanesociety. RIP Cassidy and Bonnie, who we lost to this ugly disease but are now frolicking over the bridge. We’re sorry you were brought into this world unwanted and had to leave so soon due to a disease directly correlated to the current state of animal welfare.

Long story short, Puppy Palace #3 has been sitting barren ever since, patiently waiting for the snow to melt and for us to mitigate it. While we waited on the edge of our seats, we did our due diligence and got up to speed on the best protocols with @uwmadison (thank you to everyone who donated to our upgraded vaccine protocols), and we put a plan in place for the Spring.

On Wednesday, we spent 7 hours spraying RESCUE disinfectant while dump trucks and excavators laid a fresh start for us with sand and gravel. We are looking forward to safely reopening the doors—a new beginning.

These costs were unplanned but non-negotiable. The dirt and labor costs $2,500, and a 55-gallon barrel of RESCUE costs $1,553. We will need to spend an additional $500 restocking supplies to get it up and running again. You always show up for us when we need, so here we are asking for help to make sure we do this right and it doesn’t break our budget. If you feel inspired, you can Venmo @askasanimals. $23 is a gallon of RESCUE, $50 is a yard of new dirt, $71 is a box of potty pads!Now let’s fill Puppy Palace #3 with puppies in need now that we are almost back in business!

Mark your calendars. Rain or shine we are bidding our official farewell to Winter and prepping the farm for the summer season. Bring a friend a friend, bring your favorite farm tool (rake, shovel, pitchfork, etc.) and volunteer for the day. Snacks, chores, animal time, and so much more. A glimpse into the @animaladoptioncenterjhwy Spay/Neuter Clinic. Our team has spent the weekend volunteering to provide spay/neuter services free to tribal members on the Wind River Reservation (WRR). The WRR spans millions of acres and has no animal control or access to vet care that is affordable. The pet overpopulation problem is severe and many of our Puppy Palace residents come from this area. We hope these efforts not only enhance the lives of the tribal pets being served and their families but decrease the amount of unwanted litters that are entering the shelter system.
